Stella learns that the cancer she thought wouldhug her has been cured, forcing her to face the consequences of her "live in the moment" decisions. She is also shocked to discover that her family hid their problems from her: Her parents have fallen out of love; her sister gave up her dreams of starting a family to care for her; and her brother deals Adderall to soccer moms.
When the INS unexpectedly shows up to Stella and Wes' apartment to check the legitimacy of their marriage, they realize that they need to defend their marriage or Wes might be deported back to London. Peter and Ida decide to sell the house, but when an offer comes in, Peter hesitates on following through. Stella tries to help Aiden step up to his responsibilities and to stop avoiding reality. Meanwhile, Elizabeth is having writer's block and Stella thinks she has a fix, but Elizabeth's husband Diego is not overjoyed by the idea.
As Stella settles into her new volunteer role as Patient Advocate, she learns that Sadie doesn't have anyone to fight for her. Stella suggests Sadie try the clinical trial that worked for her, but their hopes are dashed when they learn that the trial has ended. While Wes Is babysitting Diego' kids, one of them gets sick, and Ida offers her help. Meanwhile, Aiden pushes his father to have a guy's night out to help him move on from Ida.
When Stella decides to apply for a manager position, she learns another secret about her past, forcing her to figure out what she really wants to do with her life. Knowing that they need money, Wes starts secretly working on a project which upsets Stella. With the house sold, Peter and Aiden find themselves in an interesting living situation. Meanwhile, Aiden is ready to take on the responsibility of being a father, but learns some shocking news that changes things.
Stella feels like she and Wes need to get back into a romantic rhythm, but things take a turn when Wes gets a surprise visitor. Aiden is torn over whether or not he should tell his father the truth about the woman he is dating. Meanwhile, Ida seems to be struggling with Peter's new relationship which starts to cause problems in her own life.

Stella helps Aiden get a job at her coffee shop, but she soon begins to notice Aiden is up to something. Meanwhile, Lizzie and Diego are trying to get things back to normal with the kids.
