34 days to go. Slough bank manager Jamie's birthday is rocked when he is arrested on suspicion of being an international cyber terrorist. But news of an impending apocalypse throws much more into chaos.
Jamie enlists the help of his flatmate Dave as he embarks on a mission to find his missing wife Layla, while Fr Jude asks for the assistance of Sr Celine when he is given a the job of searching for the second coming of the Messiah. Rhonda is determined to return to her husband and son before the world comes to an end, but the leader of shadowy cyberterrorist group Deux Ex Machina has other plans for her.
Fr Jude and Sr Celine try to help a young girl escape an angry mob that believes she is the Messiah, while Jamie's search for his birth mother grinds to a halt when he is again mistaken for Ariel. Rhonda's brother Scotty kickstarts the US government's Operation Saviour, while her and Leanne's bid to rejoin their families is scuppered when she is arrested for stealing clothes.
Rhonda horrifies herself when she realises she will do anything to maintain her freedom, while Fr Jude proves the depths of his conviction to Celine as they and a new Messiah investigator rush to stop a man from jumping off a building. Jamie finally arrives at his birth mother's mental health facility and Ariel reveals his surprising motive for hacking into the NSA's systems - and then stumbles upon the US government's biggest secret.
Jamie makes a discovery that leaves him feeling completely betrayed, while Ariel sends Scotty a worrying video message. Rhonda realises she can't trust anyone when she comes face to face with Leanne's husband and the sexual tension builds between Sr Celine and Fr Jude.
Deeply unhappy about the choices he has made in the name of professional duty, Scotty tries to make amends. However, his actions fail to go down well with Gaines. Back in Slough and back in his rut (much to Paula and Dave's despair), Jamie's life receives another shake-up when a sudden tragedy prompts his father to get in touch.
Scotty is forced to choose between sister Rhonda and Operation Saviour when he spots a crucial error in the plan to save the world. With just two weeks to go until impact, Messiah hunters Celine and Jude investigate a marriage cult on a holiday island. Plus, Ariel embarks on a threatening mission. And, eager for answers, Jamie travels with Dave to what he believes is Layla's home, where the danger proves far from over for him and those close to him.
Jamie seriously underestimates Ariel's intelligence when the pair come face to face in uncertain circumstances. Meanwhile, with their apocalypse plan in motion, Scotty, Gaines and the team anxiously wait to see if they have done enough to save the world. Plus, Celine is forced to make a major decision about her future, and there are huge consequences when Father Jude makes a daring stand against the Vatican hierarchy.
Jamie panics when he finds himself separated from Layla and Frankie just 24 hours before the end of the world, but his luck could be about to change when he strikes a deal with his grandmother. Meanwhile, a recent tragedy causes Sr Celine to return to Slough, the President gets a nasty shock when he arrives at the bunker and Rhonda and Leanne force down their last meal before facing the firing squad.
The race is on for Jamie as he struggles to assemble his loved ones, rescue Layla from the clutches of his evil twin and reach the bunker before the approaching meteor strikes. Meanwhile, Sr Celine makes a discovery that makes her want to survive the apocalypse more than ever, while those racing from America to Sutton's bunker are put in jeopardy when their plane is forced to land in a field.
