Brandon meets Dylan McKay, a mysterious loner who stops some jocks from harassing Scott in tech class. Dylan takes Brandon surfing and introduces him to his friends, including a troubled young woman named Sarah. Brandon becomes disturbed by the behavior of Dylan's friends, who treat Sarah like a possession. Brandon grows tired of Dylan's bad boy act after he raids a hotel room. Dylan reveals that he lives in the hotel, and only pretended to break in to preserve his reputation. Sarah nearly drowns while surfing drunk, but Brandon and Brenda save her life. Sarah seeks help for her drinking problem, and thanks Brandon for convincing her to believe in herself. Brenda is miffed at Kelly after she leaves Brandon and her stranded at the beach. Steve's actress mother encourages him to be nice to David because she mistakenly believes that David's father is a producer. When Paige Bartlett is found near death in her apartment, Greevey and Logan follow the trail to her boyfriend, only to learn that she and Feinstein had broken up that evening. After Paige dies, they dig further into her past and find another former boyfriend, Ned Loomis, and learn that Ned has a penchant for violence when another former victim of his comes forward. Stone's case seems to be going nowhere, though, because he can't use the defendent's former crimes against him in court.

Duffy has a run-in with a motorist, who almost knocks her down and then finds he was on his way to casualty where he turns on the charm and a friendship is struck. It's a friendship that's not going to last, as he is terminally ill and she visits him after he's been admitted. Jimmy's in trouble again as Julian complains to Charlie and Harry, a porter falls ill and the staff are shocked when he dies. A spat of drunks are allowed to sleep it off but tragedy almost strikes when one of them is discovered by Jimmy to be a diabetic and found just in time. A mother brings her teenage daughter in and the team face a dilemma when prevented from treating her, because her father is bound by religious beliefs. A car race on the open road turns into disaster for two yuppies when Celia's badly injured and Stuart seems more concerned she keeps quiet rather than how she is.
