In the second season-opener, Eric and Annie renew their vows - they are getting married again. The kids aren't really excited about the wedding, but Ruthie wants to wear a tuxedo. Mary is tired of walking in crutches, but is afraid she might fall if she doesn't use them. Lucy is still angry that Jimmy Moon is going out with Ashley now, but invites them to the wedding - she later UN-invites them. Matt and Heather are spending time together before she goes away to school. Simon decides to wait before moving in his new room in the attic. Eric helps a woman, Nora, talk to the guy who killed her husband a few years ago.

Buffy returns from L.A. to begin the new school year. It soon becomes evident that Buffy's behaviour has changed for the worse, and everyone suspects that it's linked to her fateful encounter with the Master. Unbeknownst to the gang, the Anointed One and his followers plot to resurrect the vampire, forcing Buffy to stop them or face the Master again.

Ally is assigned to litigation when Fish's partner, John Cage, is faced with possible jail time and certain public humiliation. Meanwhile, Fish invites Ally to dinner with a wealthy potential client, but Ally is shocked when she realizes the dinner is a double date, not a meet-and-greet with a client.
