In a first for MasterChef Australia the contestants did the judging, with the men voting for their favourite dish from the women, and vice versa. The top 7 vote-getters (4 women, 3 men) were then put into a beef wellington pressure test, with the best man and woman progressing directly to the top 24. The winners, Claire and Jimmy, were the first pair to advance to the Top 24.

Ichigo and Ulquiorra's final battle properly gets underway with the two of them being more or less evenly matched. Ichigo is able to read his opponent's movements better than he could when they first fought, and manages to wound Ulquiorra, if even slightly. Ichigo surmises that it's either he is becoming more like a Hollow or his opponent is becoming more human, which angers Ulquiorra. Meanwhile, Chad and Renji fight a gigantic Hollow-Arrancar hybrid in the desert of Las Noches, eventually claiming victory after discovering its weakness. Back in the Tower, Orihime manages to protect Ichigo from a near-lethal attack from Ulquiorra.

Chrissie finds it hard to embrace Sacha's family especially when his mother, Esther starts talking about wedding. Chrissie ends up telling Sacha they wont be a family but he will always be a father to the baby. Michael, Ric and Joseph battle to save Paula' when the operation for the kidney transplant hits some problems. After Paula pulls through, Jac celebrates her birthday with her mother for the first time in many years. Michael isn't happy when Cunningham says he wants him to share the Director of Surgery responsibilities with Connie. Michael attempts to convince him to let him job share with Ric instead

After months of separation Patrick and Mimi amicably agree to a quickie divorce, but they get a nasty shock when it's revealed their marriage was never legal. Mimi flies into accusations and recriminations holding Patrick to blame. She then hatches a plan to secretly marry and divorce legitimately in order to save the souls of their children who were born out of wedlock.
