Stardate: 51462 When Seven of Nine locates a massive communications array, Voyager tries to use it to communicate with the Alpha quadrant. When their attempt fails, they realize they may be able to successfully send a holographic message, using the Doctor's program.
However, the Federation ship in the Alpha quadrant the Doctor is sent to, is under attack by the Romulans and the crew is dead. The Doctor is determined to fight off the attackers, but the ship's holographic Doctor isn't as brave as Voyager's Doctor in this matter.

Transportation becomes an issue for the young couple when Greg insists Dharma can use his car any time she wants but makes compulsive demands on her treatment of the vehicle. (Dharma: "Honey, I love you, but bite me!") So Dharma goes to a city auction with Jane and Pete and becomes the proud owner of a 1968 yellow schoolbus. Meanwhile, Abby invites the Montgomerys over for a meat dinner, and reveals that she was once romantically involved with Salazar, the featured artist at Kitty's charity exhibition. An amused Edward challenges the Finkelsteins to attend the function, which is threatened by a freak rainstorm and floodâ-it's 'Old Yeller' to the rescue!

Kelly moves in with Donna and Carly. Brandon expects Kelly to immediately take him back and will not give her any space. He gets plastered, staggers over to the apartment, and yells at Kelly. He refuses to leave until she threatens to call the police. Donna gets upset with Noah when he defends Brandon and claims that Kelly should "get over it". Brandon chases a minivan that cut him off and tries to attack the driver, a woman who has two children in the car. Noah realizes that Brandon has lost it, and apologizes to Donna. Valerie must perform community service at the clinic as punishment for her bookmaking arrest. Kelly smugly orders her around, so Val tries to get revenge by interfering with her relationship with Brandon. She tears up Brandon's messages and plays matchmaker for Kelly and an intern. Brandon shows up at the apartment late at night, but Kelly is not prepared to give him another chance. Carly's father suffers a heart attack and undergoes quadruple bypass surgery. She decides to move to Montana to assist with his recovery. In spite of Steve's pleas, she determines that she must relocate permanently in order to give Zach some stability. David works on a feature about an up and coming band, Jasper's Law. The group buys one of his compositions, a love song he had once written for Donna. Kelly encourages a domestic abuse victim to escape from her husband.

The timing couldn't be worse, since the Mayor needs Mike to help write his newest book, so Mike brings in best-selling author Donald Trump to advise the Mayor on writing. Meanwhile, a chair-snatching bureaucrat is terrorizing the staffers.

Murphy battles insomnia and the gang helps her to get through the night. Frank, while he is on a stakeout with a SWAT team. Jim, while he is working on getting back together with Doris. The shooting of two people in a restaurant restroom takes some abrupt turns as they try to discover who exactly the intended victim was, and the prosecutors have to deal with a defendant claiming to have been in a dissociative state while committing the crime-- the same defense used years before by the defendant's father.
