Vera Season 12, Episode 5
Airs: 8:00pm - 9:30pm on ITV
It may be the run up to Christmas but this doesn't mean that DCI Vera Stanhope can slow down and enjoy a bit of Secret Santa and some mince pies - far from it as the apparent suicide of Rick Kelsall sees Vera's boss insist that she personally take a look into the case as it's a high profile death on Holy Island and that's her home stomping ground. Vera soon works out that there is more to Rick's death than initially suspected, he was murdered.
Rick had been attending a reunion with old friends, a ritual they have all stayed true to for over forty years. Had one of those at the reunion been holding a grudge for all these years and finally snapped? Is his death related to the scandal that has knocked his career sideways? Could the motivation be greed? Is someone out for revenge? Or is it something much more obscure? And how far will the killer…or killers go to cover their tracks? Could Vera, or her team also be in danger and will they all see Christmas?
Airs: 9:00pm - 10:00pm on BBC One
It's Christmas in the Caribbean and Neville's larger-than-life mum, Melanie, is in town. She quickly assimilates herself in with the rest of the team, but she's disheartened to see how down on romance Neville is, given everything he's been through the past two years. Can she instil some festive cheer in her unlucky-in-love son? Elsewhere, a wealthy business owner called Gerry is found dead at the bottom of a ravine. It could just be an accident, but Gerry's ominous last words - "It's behind you" - suggest something more is going on. And things take an even stranger turn when the team discover that the family's house guest has mysteriously vanished, prompting her fiancé to fly out on a rescue mission.
