On Halloween, Buffy, Willow and Xander are 'volunteered' by Principal Snyder to take groups of kids trick-or-treating. They get their costumes from a new store run by an Englishman, Ethan Rayne. Xander chooses a soldier outfit, Buffy buys an 18th century noblewomans dress to impress Angel; and Willow, despite Buffy's attempts to get her to dress in a sexy skirt and halter, dresses as a ghost. Unfortunately Ethan turns out to be a bad guy and casts a spell to transform everyone into their costumes, and causing Buffy and Xander to have amnesia. When Spike and his vampire gang attacks them, Willow, Giles, Angel and Cordelia team up to save Buffy and the rest from being dinner, while they also need to put a stop on Ethan's curse spell.

With Odo no longer on the Major's side and the minefield about to be destroyed by Deep Space Nine's deflector array turned anti-graviton field, things look bad for the resistance on the station. The Federation's morale continues to drop. With each successful engagement, an inevitable retreat soon follows. However, Captain Sisko has a plan to turn the tide: Retake Deep Space Nine.

In Brittania, Gabrielle becomes pregnant and rapidly gives birth to a baby girl she names Hope. Xena is unsure of what to do because the child is the offspring of the evil god Dahuk and she cannot decide between killing the child or protecting her.

When an overweight attorney passes out from a near heart attack, Ally is forced into CPR action to save his life. When the man awakens, he thinks he's been kissed by an angel and falls for her.

The episode starts with a man named "Riptide" Roger Peltyn flying over the beach with his helicopter. He keeps bothering the lifeguards. He tells everyone about the fantasies he has about Donna, he calls J.D. the "Daytona pier killer" and he bothers Newmie during his workout. Lt. Taylor Walsh watches everything on TV and gets upset. She storms out of headquarters and tries to force him to leave by waving her arms. Mitch sees this from the TV in the weight room and runs out to stop her. He knows that this is exactly what "Riptide" wants. Taylor tells Mitch that "Riptide" must have a spy at Baywatch. Otherwise he can't possibly know so much about the lifeguards.
