In 1943, Carson Shaw travels to Chicago to try out for the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. There, she meets other women who also dream of playing pro baseball and makes connections that open up her world. Rockford local Max Chapman also comes to the tryouts but is turned away. With the support of her best friend Clance, she must forge a new path to pursue her dream.

The series, set in 1943, centres on the formation of the Rockford Peaches, a women's team in the nascent All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. Carson Shaw, leaves her small town life to pursue her dream of playing professional baseball, while her husband is away at war. Maxine Chapman is an African-American woman obsessed with baseball, who cannot even get people to allow her to try, and struggles to get considered for any baseball team.
