Ben Wheeler, a flair bartender in his 20s becomes surprised when Emma, a baby girl, is left on his apartment doorstep by Angela, his ex-girlfriend. He gets help from his and roommate Tucker and best friend Riley Perrin and his brother Danny Wheeler. When Angela comes back she delivers adoption papers which Ben refuses to sign after he's left alone with the baby and falls in love with her.
Bonnie is worried that the guys can't handle taking care of Emma. Ben, wanting to avoid his mother's "I told you so" and prove he can handle taking care of Emma, acts as though he has everything under control. However, in a series of mishaps, Emma ends up accidentally being left alone in the guys apartment. Ben, feeling his first parental gut wrenching scare that he could have lost his child, realizes he needs to get his act together to really become a good parent to Emma.
Ben and Tucker take baby Emma to her first doctor's appointment, and Ben ends up asking her nurse, Cassie (Briana Lane), out on a date. Riley is jealous of Ben's new relationship with Cassie, but tries to befriend her per Ben's request. Meanwhile, Danny has his first hockey game with the New York Rangers and he's very superstitious - he wears an old high school jersey that has never been washed to every game and Bonnie caters to his every ritual. Tucker, in an effort to clean up the apartment, washes Danny's jersey by accident and it shrinks down to a tattered mess - Danny is devastated. At the game, Cassie tells Riley she knows she likes Ben and directly insults her, saying Ben will only ever see her as "Fat Pants". This causes Riley to get into a girl fight with her, which is featured on the jumbotron. Emma was actually wearing Danny's lucky jersey, thanks to Tucker, and now she has become his good luck charm.
The guys appreciate all of Bonnie's help, but she is starting to become a little too overwhelming for them - showing up unexpected at their apartment at all hours. Ben looks forward to his time with Emma when he's not working, but with Bonnie always jumping in to take care of her, he's starting to miss his daddy time. Meanwhile, Riley has a new study buddy, Jack (David Cade), who Danny seems jealous of, but Ben encourages her to date him. The guys try to hide from Bonnie by heading over to Riley's house, which ends up sabotaging her date.
A baby shower is thrown at the Wheeler apartment for Emma and Bonnie gets her a girly stroller that the guys take back to exchange for a much cooler one that attracts women. Ben finds out that there is a new position opening up at the bar for a manager, but his boss doesn't think that he is responsible enough. When his boss thinks that Ben is married after seeing Riley with Emma, he reconsiders, since he nows thinks that Ben is a family man. Riley goes along with it and all goes well until Ben meets his boss' daughter at the meeting, who is the same girl that he had previously gotten a number from earlier before. Meanwhile, Danny and Tucker compete to see who can get the most phone numbers from random girls on the street with the help of the stroller, as Bonnie chases them around, looking to get the girly stroller back. At the end of the episode, Danny finally admits to Riley that he loves her, but she takes it as an act to get her out of the situation with Ben.
Riley is voted as the new team captain of Ben and Tucker's softball team but takes the job too seriously. Tucker is tired of losing and when Riley jumps in to help them, he is excited about her until her competitive side come out and pushes the team to the limit. Emma can't stop playing with her food and spitting of splashing all over everyone. Meanwhile, Danny finds out that Bonnie is dating his coach, Hank (Tuc Watkins), and he is upset about that.
Ben and Tucker put their friendship to the side when they compete for the heart of the same woman they met at a concert, Ava (Ashley Argota). Danny is asked to give a speech in front of his team, but is nervous, so Riley gives him public-speaking advice. Bonnie creates a profile on a online dating website.
Ben signs up for a Mommy and Me class and spends some time with Izzy (Amber Stevens), a mom who is very strict about babyproofing. Tucker and Danny watch a boxing match in an old laundry room in the basement. Bonnie and Riley go shopping and are then arrested, due to Emma accidentally taking a gold watch.
Danny and Ben's father Ray (Greg Grunberg) shows up and Ben tries to get him and Bonnie back together. Ray reveals to Ben that he's gay and living with a guy named Steve; when Danny arrives in the bar he thinks that Ben is gay. Meanwhile Riley and Tucker are driving back with a car full of boxes, when Tucker comes upon Danny's journal and reveals he likes Riley but in a secret code naming her "Girl X".
Riley is planning a wedding for her friend, Katie (Melissa Tang), and gets everybody involved. Danny and Tucker ruin the wedding cake and they try to fix it. After a night of partying before the wedding, Ben and Katie awaken to find themselves in bed together. Katie feels extremely guilty and tries to call off the wedding before Ben gives her a speech about true love, something that touches Riley. It turns out that Gene (Trent Garrett), a jerk from their high school days, was playing a prank on them and Ben & Katie never actually did anything. After the wedding, Ben asks Riley for a dance, while a jealous Danny looks on.
