The friends are concerned that they could becoming social lepers. They decide to throw a party, which Josie hopes will give her the chance to get together with Kingsley. Her plan doesn't work though when her boyfriend shows up. Howard has to pretend to be Vod's partner in an effort to fend off the unwanted attentions of a drummer.

The show revolves around the lives of six students who are freshers (with the exception of Howard) at the fictional Manchester Medlock University, Manchester.

They live in a shared house off-campus in Rusholme rather than university halls of residence, due to their late application.
