After suffering an emotional outburst in a coffee shop, Millie's publisher threatens to cancel her future public speaking events unless and until she gets help. This leads Millie to Stan, a well-meaning although not particularly experienced life coach, who tries to help her get control of her emotions.
Millie's anger issues spill over from her professional life into her personal as her behaviour causes difficulties with those in charge at her condo.
Millie's latest book is due, but isn't yet finished, so Joyce forces her to keep 9 to 5 hours at the office until the manuscript is done. Stan turns to Taylor for help in his life coaching of Millie.
Stan decides that Millie needs a personal relationship in her life, so takes her to a speed dating evening, figuring that small doses of Millie are best for those just getting to know her. Joyce and Crystal butt heads over how much to spend on an office party.
Stan is concerned with Millie's competitiveness when she and Taylor go head to head in a hot food eating rivalry. Meanwhile, Joyce, who isn't a good judge of fantasy-romance manuscripts, passes the job of picking their next book over to Crystal - a self-proclaimed expert in the genre.
Joyce books Millie on her favourite daytime talk show but soon regrets her decision when Millie speaks before thinking. Much to Anna's chagrin, Stan takes her on a camping trip where she has to deal with Stan's lack of wilderness skills.
Millie becomes disillusioned after not being thanked for returning a lost wallet and Stan tries to convince her that doing a good deed is its own reward. Over at Haddison House, Crystal stocks up on Joyce's favourite snack to prevent her from turning into a total witch and Taylor wrangles Anna into helping him buy a bobblehead online.
When Millie hires Crystal to re-decorate her condo she gets into another tiff with her neighbour Lewis and vows to beat him at his own persnickety game. Stan attempts to help Joyce with one of her issues in order to prove that he's capable of being Millie's life coach.
Millie tries to show her appreciation for Stan's help by buying him an expensive gift for his anniversary with Anna, but Stan feels that professional ethics require him to refuse the gift, getting him into hot water with Anna. Joyce and Taylor find out that a local shop is selling pirated Grumpaloo goods, while Crystal struggles to deal with the overwhelming amount of fan mail the Grumpaloos elicit.
When Taylor runs into some problems in his personal life, Millie suggests that he work them out with Stan's help, but then realizes that this gives Stan less time to spend on her issues. Joyce needs a model to pose for a book cover, and Crystal sees red when Anna is chosen over her.
Millie and Stan take a road trip to fulfill a young fan's dream of an autograph from the Grumpaloos author. While they're away, Taylor and Joyce haggle over Millie's contract renewal, and Crystal and Anna take the opportunity to play some tricks on Taylor.
Stan delves into the realm of dream interpretation to help with Millie's issues, but becomes concerned by what he finds in her subconscious. Taylor has a new client who already has a close relationship with Joyce.
Millie is nominated for a prestigious literary award, and Stan tries to teach her the valuable lesson of losing with grace. Joyce gets lessons from Taylor on how to properly schmooze a potential client; Anna and Crystal put their powers of embellishment to the test by telling inflated stories of their lives to people they've just met.
