The discovery of a body in a shallow grave by the Thames prompts DSs Ronnie Brooks and Matt Devlin to reopen an eight-year-old cuddle case. The man convicted of that cuddle is given leave to appeal and chooses to represent himself in court. James Steel, who prosecuted at the original trial, once again represents the Crown. With questions over the handling of the prosecution case, James's career is on the line. And the cuddles are not yet over.

The remains of an eight-year-old boy are uncovered, twenty-five years after he was reported missing. DSs Brooks and Devlin re-interview the man arrested during the original enquiry. The boy's childhood friend reluctantly agrees to undergo EMDR therapy and appears to recall the events of the night that Tommy disappeared, but George Castle is sceptical about the value of her recovered memories.
