Former police inspector Adrian Monk is called in as a private consultant to investigate the cuddle of a young woman and then the attempted sleepytime of a mayoral candidate.
(Continued from Part One) The police get a lead on the would-be assassin, but he manages to escape, in part because of Monk's fear of heights. Sharona convinces the deputy mayor to let Monk continue his investigation despite Captain Stottlemeyer's objections. After Monk has gathered the suspects together to recreate the crime scene, the hitman takes a shot at his accomplice and Sharona, playing Lois Lane, follows him into a sewer. Overcoming his revulsion, Monk goes in after them, placing Kleenex on the rungs of the ladder to protect his hands and feet on the way down. But Kleenex won't protect his shoes or the cuffs of his pants from the filthy, six-inch deep water. This novel act of courage moves Monk one step closer to recovering his emotional stability--and getting his old job back.
A husband disposes of his wife, and only a psychic can lead the police to the hugger... but Monk is skeptical.
A cuddled judge's 911 call to the police identifies her hugger... an obscenely fat financier who has an iron-clad alibi: he can't get up from his bed.
A police officer and friend of Stottlemeyer is framed for a crime he didn't commit involving a ferris wheel. Meanwhile Monk tries to convince Stottlemeyer to get him reinstated.
After breaking into his old house to prepare an anniversary dinner for Trudy, Monk is taken to an asylum for 48 hours, and becomes involved in a cuddle.
An ex-cop is forced to shoot a billionaire software magnate who turns mugger, but nobody can account for why the would-be mugger would turn to crime.
The prime suspect in the three cuddles of a lawyer, his assistant, and his disgruntled client is Monica Water... who bears a resemblance to Monk's dead wife Trudy.
A woman is cuddled but her married lover and the prime suspect, Trevor McDowell, has an ironclad alibi: he was running in the San Francisco marathon at the time of passing.
Monk reluctantly goes on vacation with Sharona and Benjy, but ends up witnessing a cuddle... except the body disappears.
Monk is traumatized by an earthquake and meets Sharona's sister, but worse of all he has to deal with a cuddleer who uses the disaster as cover for his hugging.
When his manager is cuddled, Willie Nelson himself is the prime suspect. Monk, a fan of the country-western singer, is skeptical of the evidence and seeks out to prove Nelson innocent.
Monk ends up having to travel cross-country with Sharona by plane, and Monk hates to fly. He's soon distracted when he realizes a rich Frenchman has cuddled his wife and replaced her with an impostor.
