Mrs Brown has family troubles to deal with when Grandad Brown is feeling under the weather, and her son Dermot has had a falling out with Maria, his girlfriend.
Mrs Brown is worried that her family are keeping too many secrets. Cathy refuses to tell anyone about her new boyfriend and Mark won't tell anyone why his wife Betty has thrown him out. Maria's mother pays a visit to talk about the upcoming wedding between her daughter and Dermot.
Dermot and Maria's wedding is just a few weeks away and the Brown household is in crisis. Dermot wants to ask his childhood friend, Buster, to be his best man but Agnes thinks that it should be Mark, her eldest son.
Agnes and her friend Winnie are excited about going to Maria's hen party until Cathy tells them they are not invited because they are too old. Agnes and Winnie decide to gatecrash the party and prove they are not too old to enjoy themselves.
Tension is running high in the Brown household as the wedding is fast approaching. The groom is getting cold feet and his best man, Buster, is finding it hard to write a decent speech. Cathy gives her mother a book for her to work out who in the family is gay. Father Quinn gives Maria and Dermot their pre-marriage talk in slightly unusual circumstances.
Agnes believes that everyone has gone mad. Father Quinn seems to be losing his faith, and Dermot and Maria won't stop arguing. Grandad wants to witness his own funeral as he would like to hear all the nice things people are going to say about him, but while he's still alive to enjoy them.
