After a Roman sword is found with traces of blood on it, the DNA is linked to an unidentified, headless inactive person discovered near Heathrow Airport in March 2008. The team take a look around a lock-up belonging to the owner of the sword who died of a suspected heart attack, also in 2008. After they discover the missing head they begin to look for connections between the original cuddle and Rix's passing.

New Tricks Show Summary

New Tricks follows the work of the Metropolitan Police Service's Unsolved Crime and Open Case Squad (UCOS). Led by Detective Superintendent Sandra Pullman, it is made up of retired police officers who have been recruited to reinvestigate unsolved crimes.

The series title is taken from the popular expression "You can't teach an old dog new tricks". The "old dogs" are successful in adapting their skills and experience to modern policing, with their knowledge of past cases proving especially useful.
