Georgie and 2 Section are sent to Nepal following a devastating earthquake, where she quickly discovers that disaster brings out the worst as well as the best in people. In addition to her duties as a medic, Georgie is tasked with mentoring Maisie, a reckless young recruit, and also meets Milan, an attractive Nepalese engineer, with whom she forms a bond while working together to rebuild the area.
A frantic search ensues in the wake of the aftershock when 2-section realise Georgie is missing, while a young local girl previously befriended by Georgie, and a small group of children, are abducted by Da Chand, a fake NGO worker. Military intelligence discovers that he's part of a terrorist network and there's a chance he will lead them to the more important target of Aatan Omar, leaving 2-section to track him and to assist a Special Forces Unit led by a familiar and unwelcome face - Elvis.
Georgie is reeling that Elvis is back in her life and concerned for the safety of Tara, but does her best to concentrate on the mission in Afghanistan. Arriving in Kabul they are greeted by Captain James' old friend, Captain Azizi, to assist them as they try to track down Omar. Maisie is instantly suspicious. Recovering after the ordeals of Afghanistan and Nigeria, Georgie and 2-section find themselves in Belize on a jungle training exercise. Wanting to prove herself a capable leader, she leads a team against James to settle a score, but is forced to step up when events take a turn for the worse. 2-section retreat back to base to raise the alarm, while Georgie and James must work together to evade the wrath of a lethal drug gang who are operating close by
With the training exercise now having become a fully fledged rescue mission, Georgie and James are compelled to use every ounce of cunning and training to evade capture while they wait to be rescued. As Bones and his special forces unit lead the effort to rescue them without attracting unwanted attention, Georgie and James, helped by local teenager Ezra, must overcome seemingly insurmountable odds. As well as evading capture, Georgie and James must also re-evaluate their professional relationship after James makes a stunning confession - a confession that not only forces Georgie to re-examine their relationship, but also forces James to ask if army life is still for him.
The team struggles to meet Bones's expectations, but the new leader of 2-Section threatens to send one of them home and bring in another medic, putting Georgie's place at risk. The section are assigned to work in refugee camps to help the influx of refugees coming in from Myanmar, which have been set up by Barsha Chowdhrey, the wife of the local police chief. Inspector Chowdhrey is known for his hatred of corruption in the region and at a gala held for the Brigadier, Bones spots a suspect package placed underneath his chair, prompting him to leap into action.
2 Section have the camp on lockdown as Inspector Chowdhrey explains that the refugee route might be being exploited by yaba dealers, a local drug coming over the border from Myanmar. When Georgie meets Maya, a sex worker and yaba addict who is being treated at the clinic, she starts investigations of her own.
As the camp is hit by a cholera epidemic, 2 Section are tasked with protecting Inspector Chowdhrey who is now a key witness in bringing down the leaders of the drug gang. Horrified when a gruesome message is sent demanding his silence, the Inspector fears for his family's safety and refuses to cooperate. When Georgie suspects that Barsha knows more than she previously let on, she hatches a plan to persuade Inspector Chowdhrey to make a full statement. However, it's not long before disaster strikes.
Georgie is caught in the crossfire when another attempt is made on Inspector Chowdhrey's life, forcing her to re-examine her feelings for her captain. With Chowdhrey's son Sumon still missing, Georgie persuades James to call in special forces. A daring mission is conceived, but 2 Section find themselves in a deadly shoot out with the drug gang to recover Sumon and halt the yaba trade.
