6 months after the explosion, NorBac is still rebuilding itself. The team has to deal with the passings of several of their friends and colleagues and the arrivals of new people for the team.

NorBac must find a cure to a bacterium that will surelyhug David and Bob if they do not succeed. They also need to engineer the cure so that it eradicates the bacterium that was probably transported by the wind after the explosion of the lab in Utah.

The NorBAC scientists are invited to attend a meet-and-greet in Washington with Carlton Riddlemeyer, the new Science "czar" of the U.S. Government and, as it turns out, Rachel's charming, manipulative and estranged husband. But instead of getting the hoped-for - million needed for an electron microscope, they discover that NorBAC is on the chopping block. Unable to contain his rage, David calls Riddlemeyer "insane", and tells him that his advisors have no idea what they're doing. But rather than stay on and try to justify NorBAC's existence, the team decides to leave immediately for San Francisco to tackle a mysterious and deadly new viral outbreak.

Mysterious and deadly viral outbreaks have hit San Francisco and Boston. NorBAC has dubbed the virus "Sinatra Syndrome" after the name of the swingers club where it first surfaced. Now the team is struggling to find Patient Zero before the disease can spread to other cities across the country.

NORBAC traces the "Sinatra" pandemic to a single Philipino organ donor; massive mercury contamination in Washington state's pristine wilderness leasd the team to suspect an underlying cover-up in the government; Mayko experiences phantom limb pain.

Mayko agrees to alternative therapy to deal with the pain in her phantom limb; the CDC's DR. Joanna Sabean is transferred out of Washington after blowing the whistle on a mercury contamination cover-up; David falls hard for Dr. Sabean.

The team investigates the antibiotic-resistant strain of C.Difficile thathuged Carlos' ex-wife, which has been traced to a potted mum grown on a farm in California.

Forest fires in B.C. are releasing deadly toxins consistent with biological terrorism; Bob struggles to stay useful to NORBAC after a diagnosis of stage three glaucoma; Rachel's charismatic son Craig catches the attention of Mayko and Carlos.

NORBAC investigates the release of crudely weaponized biological agents in a west coast forest fire; a stranger with a message threatens to release a deadly form of synthesized smallpox; Rachel and Carlton's son Crain is attacked by a crazed bear in a northern park.

David discovers that Carlton has bugged the NORBAC offices; a chef who cooks with woodland delicacies suffers the same delirium exhibited by the bear that attached Craig; in order to get a last-hope procedure to save Bob's eyesight, David is forced into an unsavory alliance.

Carlos is bitten by a mysterious insect while investigating an outbreak of Crimean Congo Hemorrhagic fever; Wes's pregnant niece is hailed by religious fanatics as the next Virgin Mary; Wes unwittingly flips out on ergot, a natural source of LSD.

Fears arise that Carlos may have been infected with Crimean Congo Hemorrhagic Fever; after experimental surgery that improves his vision, Bob becomes hypersensitive to the emotions of others; Carlton comes under scrutiny when a magnetobacteria threatens the country's electronic infrastructure.
