On his very first day on the job, new cop Ben Sherman begins to question whether he is cut out for the job or not. Adding to his struggles is the fact that his partner is a stern veteran who expects nothing but perfection from him. Meanwhile, detectives investigate the disappearance of a girl who is believed to have been kidnapped right from the front yard of her home.
An investigation is opened when Cooper, Sherman, and Brown find an abandoned baby in the middle of an intersection. However, the case proves to be too close to home for Detective Adams, whose involvement with the investigation forces her to deal with past issues. Meanwhile, Bryant and Moretta find themselves in a difficult situation when they can't seem to gather sufficient funds to place a teenager under police protection for safety.
Ben reveals details of his past that explain his motivation to be a cop. Meanwhile, Chickie questions her partnership with Dewey when the latter becomes starstruck and fails to do his job.
Detectives Bryant and Moretta are summoned to an alley in Los Angeles where the body of an unidentified female is being used by gang members for target practice. Meanwhile, Lydia offends Det. Clarke when she tells him he was too personal when interviewing the sister of a victim.
Moretta and Bryant step in to aid Salinger when he crashes into a light pole and members of a gang steal his weapon. Meanwhile, Adams is taken aback when a man exposes himself outside her home.
When Detectives Adams and Clarke investigate jewelry thieves who are targeting homes in Bel Air, Officer Sherman becomes involved personally when he discovers he knows one of the victims. Meanwhile, as Bryant and Moretta prepare Janila for trial, Det. Bryant uses unconventional means to insure her safety.
A member of Marta's Avenue gang is found dead after Detective Bryant persuades Lydia to help Janila. Meanwhile, the rift between Detective Salinger and his teenage daughter continues to deepen.
