Twenty-four hours before Selina's first major speech as president, her staff frantically tries to work out how she can say two completely opposite things at the same time. Gary questions his worth now that he can no longer be close to Selina; Jonah is put off by the approach of Teddy, the new VP's chief of staff; Amy learns that Bill Ericsson (Diederich Bader), a rival campaign manager, may make a play for her job.
Set in Washington, D.C., Senator Selina Meyer becomes Vice President, only to discover the job is nothing like she expected, but everything she was warned about. Sue is Vice President Meyer's assistant; Amy is her chief of staff; Gary is her right-hand man; Dan is an ambitious director of communications for a senator; Jonah is a young and somewhat clueless White House liaison; and Mike is Vice President Meyer's weathered spokesperson.
Veep is based on the style of the BBC television sitcom The Thick of It which is set in a fictional department of the British government. The Thick of It was first broadcast in 2005, gaining a number of awards and in 2009 inspiring a spin-off film, In the Loop.
