The Enterprise receives a distress signal from a 75 year old Federation vessel, and discovers it has crashed on a Dyson Sphere, an enormous structure where a shell is artificially created which surrounds a star at roughly the same distance as the earth is from the sun. Investigation of the crashed transport finds that one of the ship's passengers has actually survived the intervening time looped inside the ship's teleporter, and it turns out to be an old friend of the Enterprise...

Philip intends to railroad the ineffectual Judge Robertson off the bench; and Will becomes the 'love slave' of a flamboyantly generous plain student. Will accepts many expensive gifts off her including tickets to the Los Angeles Lakers game, a Harley Davidson and a jacket emblazoned with a motif of his hero Malcolm X. In the end she reveals actually she does not even like him and she was doing this for his attention for her own gains regarding image, because he was captain of basketball and lots of other girls do like him.

Miserable Wayne Industries scientist Jervis Tetch is unable to pursue the girl he loves, Alice, the secretary. When she splits up from her boyfriend, he makes an advance and develops a fast friendship with her, until her boyfriend reconciles with her and proposes to her. Enraged, Tetch decides to take matters into his own hands, and dons the mantle of the Mad Hatter, using his mind control devices to force those who have wronged him all his life to become his mindless slaves.

Slade is surfing under a pier and everybody adores him for it. Hobie who likes a girl named Heather tries to imitate Slade just so that he can impress her but Hobie's friend Landon tries to talk him out of it. But Hobie goes surfing anyway and falls under the pier. Mitch has to rescue him with Summer's help. When the rescue is completed, Summer's truck starts rolling down the beach and Mitch has to rescue a woman and gets a slap in the face as a thank you. Summer apologizes to Mitch and it turns out that she forgot the parking brake just because Slade was there.

Doris, feeling that her life is miserable, decides to become a cabaret singer and Jim has hard time dealing with it.
