Although it has only been a few days she stepped foot on the station, Ezri Dax has many memories of Deep Space Nine, both good and bad. The problem, however, is that she reminds almost everyone of Jadzia. Due to this, Ezri has decided to leave the station and return to her previous assignment as ship's counselor. Just before she leaves, she is ordered by Captain Sisko to look in on Garak, who has had several claustrophobic panic attacks.

Voyager enters an area of space that is devoid of stars. The crew is told that it might be two years before they make it to the other side. As time in the void drags on, the crew becomes more and more despondent, and Capt. Janeway secrets herself away in her ready room.

When the ship losses power, and is attacked and boarded, Voyager is rescued by another race's ship. The Malon ship that rescued Voyager has an amazing proposal for the crew. If they turnover the boarding party alien whom they captured during the attack, the Malon will take Voyager through a spatial vortex that they know about, that will take them all the way across the void.

However, the crew learns that the Malon are using the void as a dumping ground, and poisoning the territory of the attacking aliens. The crew must decide if they should destroy the spatial vortex, or take the easy way out.

A demon poses as a photographer in order to get close to beautiful young women, and then steals their youth. It's up to Prue and Piper to make sure that Phoebe isn't the next victim.

Dawson's is preoccupied in his relationship with Joey and forgots about Pacey's sixteenth birthday. Dawson looks at Joey's diary without her knowing. Mitch and Gale seek advice about their marriage. Jen begins hanging out with Abby. Andie's brother Jack gets a job at the Ice House.

When Sally learns that she's not Don's first girlfriend, she is consumed with retrospective jealousy and determines to track down his exes. Meanwhile, Dick learns what it's like to be the dean's boyfriend when everyone ignores him at a function except the other "faculty wives". He decides to prove his worth by staging a fashion show to raise money for repairs to the campus statue, but succeeds in raising only $100 above expenses. Meanwhile, Harry and Tommy "creep out" Mrs. Dubcek by setting themselves up in business with a lemonade stand.

It's traditional to fight on your first anniversary (even if Hallmark doesn't have a card for it): Dharma and Greg stage an argument to escape their parents' planned celebration, but in concocting the excuse Greg says Dharma was being "flighty", and the gloves come off. While they drive out of the city, Dharma retaliates by calling Greg a "stick in the mud", and soon their car is stuck in the mud when he tries to demonstrate how impetuous he can be. (Not very.) They hike to a diner, but find it closed because of a death in the owner's family; just as Greg breaks a pane in the door in order to use the phone, a highway patrolman happens by and the young couple get caught in a charade of being the replacement cook and waitress. There's a nice unspoken continuity with the first season episode in which Greg really did become a short order cook, and it's nice to see him sharing Dharma's role-playing game, even if unwillingly.
