Returning from a conference, Chief O'Brien and Constable Odo are paid a visit by a Changeling. However, the Changeling calls himself a Metamorph. He, like Odo, was one of the one hundred shape-shifters sent out by the Founders at an early age in order to experience other species' ways of life. The Metamorph has been trying to return home ever since. Luckily, Odo is the first shape-shifter that the Changeling encountered.

Stardate: 52619.2 When Voyager encounters, and destroys a Borg Cube, Seven of Nine finds valuable information in the wreckage about another crippled Borg Cube. The crew then decides to tempt fate by attacking the disabled Cube and steal their transwarp drive, in an attempt to shave twenty years off their trip to the Alpha Quadrant.

After defeating a Borg ship, Captain Janeway decides to launch an attack to steal a trans-warp coil to shorten Voyager's journey home. The Borg detect her plan, and access Seven Of Nine's neural transceiver to deliver an ultimatum: re-join the collective or the ship and its crew will be assimilated. If she agrees, the ship will be guaranteed safe passage through Borg space.

Prue gets a magical distress call from a young witch named Max, who has been kidnapped and forced to help rob a bank. Elsewhere, Phoebe discovers that Leo is a magical being known as a Whitelighter, and that he must find a way to end his relationship with Piper.

The joint investigation reveals that the victim was involved in a love affair with another high-level government official, whose career will be destroyed if the relationship becomes public. The independent counsel summons McCoy and his Baltimore counterpart, Ed Danvers, to Washington and demands that McCoy reveal his source or be jailed for contempt. Briscoe and Curtis apprehend the suspect, but F.B.I. claims jurisdiction and the suspect evades trial, if not justice.
