Generation Kill Season 1, Episode 7

Bomb in the Garden

Airs: 1:00am - 2:00am on HBO

Bravo reaches Baghdad, where the men are shocked by the sheer size and scope of the city. They set up shop in an abandoned cigarette factory and get a chance to rest for a bit, although the factory grounds aren't quite as secure as they'd like. Hampered by having only one translator for the battalion, First Recon can only send out sporadic patrols into the city. During those patrols they discover the list of problems the Iraqis face is much greater than the Marines could imagine. Their attempts to help are thwarted by ever-changing assignments, a lack of necessary supplies, unruly locals and cultural misunderstandings. While Colbert worries about his friend Kocher, who has been demoted, Fick becomes more and more disillusioned with the lack of a plan in Baghdad, and refuses an order that would put his men in danger. The men learn their final night in Baghdad is upon them and celebrate in a soccer stadium. They head south to an abandoned Iraqi army base to wrap things up, but not before Ferrando's misguided enthusiasm has disastrous results. The Marines take inventory and reflect on their time in Iraq, and tensions that have been simmering throughout finally boil over during a friendly football game. Scribe says his goodbyes to the men and has an interesting conversation with Ferrando before heading off. One of the Recon Marines shows the movie he's put together from footage he's shot. The men enjoy the sights and sounds before drifting off.

Ice Road Truckers Season 2, Episode 12

The Big Thaw

Airs: 1:00am - 2:00am on History Channel

Warming temperatures are causing overflows all over the ice road, and with water rushing through cracks in the ice, hauling loads just got a lot more dangerous. Jody and Brett take on the challenge of removing the 66-ton derrick from the Langley site. The massive rig will have to be 'two-trucked;' one truck will make the entire journey traveling backwards. Although maintenance crews create a detour around the overflow, Jody and Brett still need the help of a pilot car to navigate their double load along its winding turns. Forced to wait for the pilot car to arrive, the truckers sit with 200,000 pounds of dead weight on weakened ice, with freezing ocean water below. Hugh is hauling one of the only standard-sized loads of the day, so while everyone else is stuck driving at 15 mph, the Polar Bear is running full steam ahead. Unencumbered by speed restrictions, Hugh is trying to use his last few days in the Arctic to secure his reputation as the only Southern driver who has what it takes to make it in the North.

Mad Dogs

Airs: 8:00pm - 9:00pm on BBC One

Ministry of Defence spooks try to silence the UCOS team when they reinvestigate the death of British soldier Eric Trimble, in the final episode of the crime drama. Just weeks before a tour of duty in Iraq, Trimble, along with three other squaddies - Andy Merrill, Keith Sharratt and Ronnie Glazebrook - was sent to the MoD's Influenza Research Unit (IRU) to take part in a medical trial.

All four did a bunk one night, but Trimble never returned. He was later found beaten to death two miles from the Unit. Was Trimble the victim of a racist attack or an Army cover-up, or was his death a direct result of the experiments being carried out by the IRU? When the MoD's DI Hamilton tries to stifle the case and the Army becomes obstructive, Jack Halford and DAC Strickland form an unlikely bond that sees them breaking protocol to get answers.

With the three surviving soldiers now suffering from either serious psychological, drink or memory problems, the team hopes that the Unit's Dr Matheson can shed light on the true nature of the trials. Brian's behaviour, meanwhile, causes concern. He appears to have improved since being fooled into thinking he can drink just one glass of wine, however, his alarming new obsession is masking the truth.
