Buffy takes Dawn to her first day at the newly restored Sunnydale High, only to discover that the school still hides the deep, menacing secrets of years past. Meanwhile, a remorseful Willow recoups in England and turns to Giles and the coven to learn to control her magic.

On her last night in Washington D.C. over the summer, Rory helps Paris get ready for an unexpected date. While missing Rory, Lorelai has been having strange dreams, including being married to having twins with Luke. Sookie decides she needs to make the house more masculine for Jackson even though he insists that he likes it the way it is. Taylor puts together an end of summer festival for Stars Hollow. When Rory gets back, she is upset to see Jess making out with a platinum blonde in the middle of town and admits to her mother about the kiss she and Jess shared, sparking a fight between Rory and Lorelai. Lorelai also fights with her parents when she tells them about Sherry and Christopher, and returns to Luke's in hopes of a reconciliation with him.

Paul is left home alone with the kids while Cate is at a seminar on the day of the big Michigan/Ohio State football game. But much to Paul's dismay, the game soon takes a backseat when Bridget is accused of shoplifting and Kerry gets upset over her latest cause.

Clark rescues Lana from the storm, but discovers that the spaceship is released, while Jonathan is buried alive with the unscrupulous reporter who discovered Clark's secret. Meanwhile, Lex is wracked with guilt over his critically injured father.

Donna and Eric walk in on Hyde and Jackie making out.

The episode starts with a short recap of where we left off last season: Bud & PO Coates walking along a dirt road enroute to attend the ground-breaking of the new school, when they spot a small boy playing in a field that had yet to be cleared of mines. As Coates runs for help, there is an explosion behind her. She turns in time to see Bud injured in the explosion and runs to his side. Coates insists that Bud must be transported on the helo that brought them in, that Bud won't be able to wait for the proper medevac chopper.

Daphne and Niles decide they have to get married immediately, so they elope to Reno the same night without telling anyone. When they get back, they discover that the rest of the family would be upset if they didn't get to go to the wedding, so they decide to have another wedding without telling anyone about the first one.
