Homer test drives an electric car so that he can win a free gift. The free gift is being part of the test audience for Mel Gibson's new remake of "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington." Everyone loves the film except Homer. Mel Gibson shows up after the screening and they all worship him...except Homer. The audience fills out cards about the movie and every single one of them loves it...except Homer. Mel reads the cards personally, but Homer's card disturbs him so much that he flies back to Springfield and asks Homer to help him re-edit the film. Homer agrees and the Simpson family goes to Hollywood. Homer has no idea what he is doing, but has no qualms about butting in and voicing his opinions. He walks all over Gibson and his ideas are terrible. The redone movie has a lot more action and it shocks the executives. The executives threaten to destroy the film, so Mel and Homer take it and run. They premiere it in Springfield and everyone hates it, Mel's career is ruined. Homer pitches more movie ideas, but Mel refuses to listen.

Peggy survives falling out of a plane, but is in a full body cast. Hank is overcome with guilt at having encouraged her to jump out of the plane, but that might not be the real reason Peggy jumped. Meanwhile, Didi gives birth to a baby boy, whom Cotton names "Good Hank." But Didi and Cotton don't know how to deal with a baby, and they leave most of the work to Bobby.

Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda head to the Hamptons and Charlotte meets a 26-year old guy. She tells him she's 27 and she starts to act like a girl in her twenties. They sleep together and he gives her crabs. Samantha fires her 25-year old assistant Nina and she steals her business rolodex. She gets jealous when Nina plans "The Hamptons Hoe-Down" and people who have never shown up for her parties show up for Nina's. She decides to congratulate her and is happy to discover that Nina needs her help because nothing is going as planned and to pay her back she sets her up with Greg, the guy who gave Charlotte crabs. Carrie gains a protege and can't believe that at 25 she's still a virgin. She goes to a book party and meets a doctor. Later at the hoe-down she runs into Mr. Big, who's back from Paris, with his twenty-something girlfriend whom he met in Paris.

This year's company vacation will take place on the maiden voyage of the Titanic, captained by Zapp Brannigan. To avoid his unwanted seduction, Leela lies of an engagement to Fry. Zapp isn't the only one being misled about romantic involvements. Amy's parents are also aboard the ship, and she's pressured into telling them she has a new boyfriend, Fry. Amidst all the love lies, Bender woos a beautiful robot, the Countess de la Roca. Meanwhile, Zapp's arbitrary decision to deviate from the planned course of travel might cause history to repeat itself as the Titanic hits some obstacles along the way.

Ash goes to catch a Mr. Mime but is stopped by a circus ringleader wishing to make her Mr. Mime who isn't performing jealous.
