On a salvage mission aboard a drifting colony ship, the Serenity crew find signs that the crew were killed by the cannibalistic Reavers. They find one survivor, but things take a turn for the worse when an Alliance ship looking for an unspecified Firefly-class ship with brother-and-sister stowaways shows up and takes them in.

Sabrina's first assignment at Scorch is to write a profile about an overconfident rock star, but when her senior editor Annie publishes the truth about the arrogant superstar, he threatens to sue the magazine unless Sabrina gives a public apology at his concert. Back at the house, Morgan and Roxie decide to train Salem. They begin with the purchase of a collar, which proves a shock for the magical cat.

While continuing his quest to figure out who he is and from where he came, John Doe must use all his unique abilities to solve a gruesome murder case, initiated when a seemingly innocent individual dives into a swimming pool which he discovers is filled with human blood. Meanwhile, Lt. Jamie Avery, impressed with Doe's ability to help the police with the case, attempts to surreptitiously learn his real identity. Karen is fired from her waitress job at The Sea and convinces Doe that he needs her as his assistant. Also, a mysterious woman may have information on Doe's identity.

The detectives go on the trail of a recently paroled rapist responsible for the murder of a prostitute during a raid at a men's club and are called to the scene where he was shot in self defense by his own gun. However, the murder weapon was also used in another crime while he was still in prison, leading the detectives to investigate the victim through a trail of previously unsolved cases, a spending spree and another victim.

Jack's clothes are stolen and he must get them back while being chased by an angry mob who think he's indecent.

On their way to the Whirl Cup competition, Ash and friends are fortunate enough to pass a small mountain village just as an annual Chinchou migration is about to occur. Long ago seismological forces had combined to lift the mountain out of the depths of the sea, bringing along with it the undersea nesting ground of these Chinchou.

During the rebuilding of the manor, Kitty and Kurt intercept a bunch of graffiti artists disguised as monsters. The older students get to go back to Bayville High for one day before attending a hearing to determine their ultimate fate, while they are banned from using their powers.

It's the day of Lara's trial, but she's not feeling positive since Melanie Collier denied her husband raped her. Lara tries to convince the jury her act was self-defence. Lara is shocked, when they return their verdict. While Duffy is in court, her mother, Kate, is brought in after her condition worsens. Kate tells Charlie she wishes not to be resuscitated. Duffy is angered by Charlie's attempts at sympathy and finds a shoulder to cry on in new security guard Ryan. Dillon and Harry clash with Charlie over how to treat two sisters, who are found to be drug mules.
