In an effort to contribute to society and to make her boys useful at the same time, Lois "volunteers" Malcolm, Reese and Dewey for charity work at a local church. The boys are assigned to sort giant piles of donated clothing, game, appliances etc. Initially irritated at their new task, they realize the donated stuff is a lot nicer than their own possessions, and they begin swapping out their old stuff with the second-hand items. The boys soon make a enterprise out of their charity assistance, going as far as to sell things to the neighborhood kids - that is until Hal finds out. Meanwhile, Francis must come to grips with the fact his fabulous job in Alaska is not quite what he expected.

Homer's foray into the fortune writing business leads to a romance for Mr. Burns. Then Burns seeks advice from Homer when he starts to romance, Gloria his new found love. Things look good for Monty who proposes marriage, just as Gloria's ex arrives on the scene, Snake, who's just recently escaped from prison. He grabs Gloria and Homer and takes them hostage, leaving Monty and the police to affect their rescue.

Sydney has to undergo a lie detector test, from Sloane, who is looking for the SD-6 mole. Meanwhile, Sydney goes searching for the connection between a 500 year old Rambaldi sketch and a machine, with Anna Espinosa on her tail. Also, Will is still looking for the mystery behind Kate Jones, Danny's so called mistress. And Sydney discovers a keepsake owned by her mother, which deepens her into her father's past.

Doggett and Reyes investigate the murder of a couple in West Virginia that has all the signs of a satanic ritual killing. They link the murder to a doctor who is incarcerated in a mental institute, and Doggett becomes convinced that the doctor is orchestrating the crimes from within the hospital.
