When Enterprise comes across a wounded Klingon vessel, T'Pol, Hoshi and Reed take a shuttlepod down to investigate. There they are ambushed by a hostile female Klingon who hijacks the shuttlepod, leaving the Enterprise crewmembers dangerously stranded aboard the Klingon vessel. Now it's up to Archer to take the Klingon under guard and enlist her help in rescuing his crew.

It's Dawson's first day in his new film school. Oliver (the somewhat obnoxious filmmaker Dawson met on the film festival) starts showing him around and wastes no time in asking Dawson to direct a movie he wrote. Reluctant to direct someone else's work, Dawson starts giving notes to Oliver on the script, and ends up accepting the job, thanks to Jen's incentive. Jen, on the other hand, is having some problems of her own. Her current state of happiness from the wonderful relationship with Dawson is reflecting on her on-air performance. Now she has to go back to the sharp-tongued, edgy advices she used to give instead of the romantic, love-themed ones. Meanwhile, Elliot finally has the courage to ask Joey out, but Joey makes second plans for a gathering with professor Wilder. She makes a fake excuse not to go out with Elliot, and her evening takes an unexpected turn when she and professor Wilder kiss. Elsewhere, Jack is reprehended by his brothers for being on academic probation. Irritated

Alton finds himself catering a tailgate party for a group of folks out to catch a glimpse of a mythical sea monster.To commemorate the event, Alton prepares a menu featuring his favorite tailgateable sea monster: squid.

Cheryl decides to go behind Jim's back and loan Andy $1,000 for a downpayment on a new condo.

While the staff debates on whether or not to counter an attack on Bartlet from a Republican presidential candidate, Josh is forced to postpone his vacation with Amy Gardner in order to deal with a situation at a Navy firing range Puerto Rico. Meanwhile, Sam has a meeting with Robert Engler who believes that gold is missing from Fort Knox; C.J. and Toby square off on affirmative action; and Donna asks Josh to relieve her of jury duty.

The bludgeoning of two women in their apartment leads the detectives to a suspect who has taken a hostage while demanding legal representation ... and Southerlyn's actions, while heroic, result in disbarment proceedings against her for violation of Disciplinary Rule 1-102.
