The clown is murdered naming the hypnotist; Laura's boyfriend, the clown's girlfriend, and his fellow clown are all suspected and Laura's willingness to marry the hypnotist puzzles Father Brown even though he agrees to marry the couple.

DCI De Freitas's expertise in victim and killer profiling is used to help narrow down the suspects as she contains her undercurrent of animosity with Drake.
