An estranged and addict son puts further strain on his blended family when he's hit by a car. They blame his drug use, but he claims he was running from a strange and horrific scene of his friend eating people. The incident seems to be related to the fear in the air many in the city have about reports of random attacks around country.
Understanding only that something catastrophic is underway, Madison and Travis try to gather their family to flee to the desert for safety. However, this becomes difficult as things begin falling apart, creating a dangerous situation in the city.
As the situation at home is getting worse, Travis finally returns with ex and son. Their home also becomes refuge for the Salazars as the mother was injured during their escape. Unfortunately, their plan to leave is set back.
Everyone tries to adapt and make the most of the military occupation and quartering off the neighbourhood. However, there are signs that the people aren't being told what's really going on.
Travis and Daniel work in different ways to get their family members back and both discover some unsettling things about the military.
Meanwhile, Nick meets someone interesting in holding, as Alicia and Chris spend time in a vacant home.
Learning that the military is going to abandon the neighbourhood, the two families escape. Their plan to get into the base causes it to become compromised, leaving an opportunity for Nick and Strand to escape as Eliza is forced to leave.
