Jerry gets to meet Keith Hernandez, a New York Mets player and tries to make a good first impression. Later, Keith goes on a date with Elaine, missing his plans with Jerry. Meanwhile, George has to talk the unemployment agency into extending his unemployment checks.

George continues to convince the unemployment office that he's getting a job. Jerry and Kramer go to visit a former neighbor and her baby. Elaine breaks up with Keith after discovering he smokes and Jerry breaks up with him as well. Also, George tries to make good on his plans to sleep with a really tall woman.
