Stardate: 54890.7 The crew of Voyager is conned out of its warp core by none other than the Doctor. The now only impulse capable Voyager, working without Janeway who is missing, must recover the warp core, or their journey will be over. They must figure out what the Doctor's motives are and where he might have gone to.

It soon becomes apparent that more than one child fits the profile and the evidence, but an e-mail sent by one of the students skewers the investigation towards one particular youth with a violent history. McCoy goes head to head with Jamie Ross, who is acting as the teen's defense attorney, and who argues that the e-mail is inadmissable because it is privileged.
