Tyler Reed, new owner of Desert Jack's Graboid Adventure, arrives in Perfection and must help Burt Gummer determine why El Blanco is eating far more than he should. Meanwhile, Melvin Plug is trying once again to buy out Perfection, this time to erect a strip-mall called "Melville." Twitchell nearly forces Burt to kill El Blanco, but Burt spots a weird glinting light and shoots that instead, destroying the device that is driving El Blanco insane with hunger. The goon Melvin hired to do this demands payment after barely evading Burt and summons El Blanco when Melvin refuses, but is eaten by El Blanco before he can do anything else. Melvin is discovered by Burt, who scolds him, despite Melvin maintaining his innocence. Back in town, everyone accepts Tyler as part of the Perfection family.

Three people enter an abandoned silver mine and are attacked by a strange creature, which drains the water from their bodies. Rosalita thinks it's a ghost, but Burt knows it must be something else, especially when two government agents arrive in Perfection.

Paul's job as parental guardian becomes more of a full-time position when Cate is up for a promotion and has to spend more time at the hospital. Meanwhile, after Paul introduces the boy to the hobby of baseball card collecting, Rory trades the cards for something not exactly associated with the sport.

A woman, Paulette, picks up a locked case and has it stolen, then comes to John for help. Moretti, a dead scientist, developed chips to augment the human brain and left them to her. John accepts, believing chip-augmented brain processes may be connected to him. The trail leads to Moretti's house and a dead man andmdash; the thief, then to a on-line escort service where it turns out Paulette works. John figures out Paulette has the key on her charm bracelet and opens the case andmdash; it has a motherboard set up like a map of the city, and John and Paulette track the location to an abandoned basement being used as a lab with comatose accident victims being used as subjects in the chip experiments. Then they figure out the case contents have bar codes but when John scans them for info a hacker starts blowing up city sites through the electrical and water system and demands the case be given to him. John takes the case and tracks the hacker back to a nearby mall andmdash; it's Moretti's assistant Johansen...

The body of an eight year old beauty pageant contestant is found on a bus, leading the detectives to a paroled sex offender convicted in Florida who played out the crime on a virtual-pronography website, which results in Cabot putting the owner of the web hosting company on trial for facilitation of murder.
