The day of the wedding has finally come and Xander and Anya are preparing for the hoards of "guests" to arrive. While Xander's screwed up human family go head to head with Anya's mostly non-human friends, a special guest approaches Xander to warn him that his life with Anya may not turn out to be the married bliss he has hoped for.

A heart attack scare during Larry's business pitch for his chili causes Edward to reminisce about a simpler time in his life, when he wasn't a high-pressured "captain of industry" merely acquiring and merging other companies. Trying to persuade him to adopt an an easier life, Dharma is taken aback when Edward seizes command of a mall sports shoe outlet owned by his company and happily settles in as a crackerjack shoe salesmanâ-until Kitty finds out. Meanwhile, picking up papers that need Edward's signature, Greg gets a taste of what life would be like as his father's business successor; and realizes (as Kitty angrily tells Dharma) that the real reason Edward hasn't retired is because he is waiting for Greg to take his place. J.D., Elliot and Turk are receiving their first medical students, and now they finally get a chance to see what it feels like to be on the other side.

Turk's student is a very attractive young woman, to whom Dr. Cox is immediately attracted. But he doesn't know his way around women and needs Turk to give him a little help.

Tensions run high at JAG when charges of negligence are brought against Bud for not defending his last client effectively. As Harm defends Bud, Sturgis prosecutes and Bud fears that Sturgis has damaging evidence against him. Niles sets Frasier up with Lisa, a patient who owns a bookstore, but they never run into each other. Roz sets Frasier up with Suzanne, an artist, who ends up hating Frasier. Martin sets Frasier up with Kris, an attractive girl from his building, who seems to know every man at the bar. But Frasier later runs into and hits it off with Lisa.

Caitlin surprises Charlie on his birthday by inviting his father, Ray, for a visit. What no one knows is that Ray is a con man who abandoned Charlie as a child, and who's about to con his way through City Hall as well. Meanwhile, Paul makes every effort to comfort Carter about Rags, who has passed into the great doggy beyond.

Aneesa and her mom continue to struggle with issues during their phone calls. Aneesa's mom wants Aneesa to try and not be "gay" while she's in Chicago and to just have a good time. Meanwhile, it's the first real day of work for the non-lifeguards. They meet the kids who are going to be painting the mural with them along with Lara, the Chicago Parks District Manager, who is their boss.
