Lorelai takes a road trip to North Carolina to attend Mia's wedding, and after Rory has a fight with Logan over his immaturity, she agrees to go with. Emily invites herself on the road trip to get away from Richard, who is driving her crazy as he continues to recover from his heart attack. At the wedding, Emily becomes upset by how close Mia is with Lorelai and Rory. Later, Lorelai learns that Emily came to the inn several years ago to ask Mia for pictures of Lorelai and Rory from the years they weren't speaking. Logan makes a surprise visit to the wedding to get Rory to forgive him. Meanwhile, Lane and Zach ask Luke to be the godfather to their twins. Finally, when Lane goes into labor, Luke helps get everyone to the hospital.

Ikkaku continues his fight with the Arrancar. The Arrancar is forced to unshealth his Zanpakutou after Ikkaku hears his boast about having steel skin. Keigo asks why Yumichika doesn't help, and learns that Ikkaku is having fun fighting. Ikkaku is able to switch hands between scabbard and sword, surprising the Arrancar who thinks he uses simple tactics. Arrancar releases his Zanpukutou, Volcanica, and reveals his name, Edorad Leones (Arrancar Thirteen). Meanwhile, Grimmjow easily cripples Rukia, leaving only Ichigo. Edorad explains that the Arrancar's zanpakutou is the opposite of the Shinigami's and allows the Arrancar to reach their true forms. Ikkaku is blown off with a single strike of Volcanica. Yumichika calls Soul Society and requests special freezes around each Shinigami to protect nearby souls, in addition to preparations for Ikkaku's military funeral. Meanwhile, Ikkaku releases his shikai but is still smashed to the ground by Edorad. Edorad is about to finish of Ikkaku when the Shinigami releases his Bankai, Ryuumon Houzukimaru (Dragon's Crest, Demon Light). Ikkaku's Bankai is a strength type that gets stronger as it cuts or gets cut, shown by the dragon that turns red in his center blade.

Kelsey takes it upon herself to tell the whole department about Cyd catching Greg and Andrea in the ambulance together. Embarrased about the whole situation, Greg tells Andrea that they should keep quiet about their relationship.
Jeff and Dixie arrive at a farm where the farmer has discovered an unexploded WWII bomb. They head into the field to find three badly injured children and realise they need a doctor - leaving Cyd and Greg to bring Andrea to the scene.
A reporter who was taking photos in a nearby churchyard when the bomb went off is admitted to the hospital and asks Kelsey to persuade Nathan to let him report on the aftermath of the bomb.
But when Derek realises that the reporter plans to ditch Kelsey for Nadia, he encourages Kelsey to find a way of getting Nadia out of the picture...
