Why You Should Watch 'Agatha All Along'

Marvel, a universe sprawling with gods, aliens, and men in metal suits, has long been a playground for spectacle and heroism. But within its vast landscape lies something altogether more mysterious and less explored: the world of magic, witches, and dark secrets. Enter Agatha Harkness, a character who emerged from the shadows of WandaVision to cast a spell of intrigue over audiences. And now, Marvel is conjuring up a return to her story with Agatha All Along.

A Spellbinding Return to the Darker Corners of Marvel

Kathryn Hahn's portrayal of Agatha was nothing short of a revelation. In WandaVision, she charmed her way into our hearts with a mischievous grin, only to reveal her true nature as a witch hungry for chaos and control. Yet, Agatha was never a one-dimensional antagonist. Her layers, peeled back throughout the series, revealed a character who was as witty as she was sinister, as relatable as she was terrifying.

It's not hard to see why Marvel chose to bring her back. Agatha represents a different kind of villain - one who straddles the line between malevolence and mischief, driven not by a thirst for destruction, but by an insatiable desire to understand, manipulate, and, above all, survive. In a universe filled with gods and titans, she is an underdog, fighting not for world domination, but for her place in a world where she has seen centuries come and go.

A Coven of New and Familiar Faces

Marvel's vast tapestry of characters gives Agatha the opportunity to introduce new faces alongside its familiar ones. WandaVision left Agatha trapped in Westview, but it's clear she won't remain there for long. If the rumours swirling around the cast are any indication, this series will pull us into deeper, darker corners of the Marvel Universe, places where magic isn't about flashy spells and fireworks, but about ancient texts, secret covens, and the kind of power that comes with a steep price.

Patti LuPone, who has made a career out of portraying strong, formidable women, joins the cast as a fellow witch, further cementing the idea that this series will focus on the hidden world of magic users. Debra Jo Rupp returns as Mrs. Hart, hinting that Westview might still play a part in Agatha's unfolding story. But the real excitement lies in how these characters will interact with Agatha - whether they are allies, enemies, or something in between.

There's also the return of Joe Locke, whose character has yet to be fully revealed but is rumoured to have connections to the Young Avengers, possibly as Wiccan. If this is true, the stage may be setting for the next generation of Marvel's mystical defenders, further linking Agatha's story to the broader MCU tapestry.

The Future of Marvel's Mystical Universe

As Marvel continues to expand its universe, Agatha All Along is a reminder that not all stories are about saving the world. Some are about survival, about the small and personal battles fought in the shadows. Agatha Harkness, with her centuries of knowledge and her hunger for power, represents a different kind of protagonist - one whose journey is less about redemption and more about resilience.

Kathryn Hahn's return as Agatha isn't just an opportunity for more magical mischief. It's a chance to explore a side of Marvel that we've only glimpsed - the world of ancient magic, dangerous knowledge, and the witches who walk between the worlds of light and shadow. In the end, Agatha All Along is shaping up to be a series that explores the deeper, darker corners of Marvel's magical landscape, driven by a character who is as compelling as she is dangerous. And with Hahn at the helm, we're in for a spellbinding ride.

Who Is In 'Agatha All Along'?

Kathryn Hahn plays the titular character of Agatha Harkness, a powerful witch that infiltrated Westview, the town that Wanda created in desperation, in order to steal Wanda chaos magic. One of the few characters not under Wandas control, she became trapped in the Hex, the spell surrounding the town, after being beaten in a magic duel. She is rescued from the town by her new coven, and sets off down the Witches Road, which may be built using yellow bricks, in order to get her greatest wish. Hahn is a prolific actress, but is still remembered most fondly for her turn in Parks and Recreation, despite only being in 11 of the 125 episodes.

Another Parks & Rec alum, Aubrey Plaza joins the cast as Rio Vidal, a warrior witch who joins Agathas coven. Plaza has made a name for herself with her off the wall characters, such as moody but loveable tween April Ludgate, Amahl in Legion (based on a different Marvel property) and most recently Harper in The White Lotus.

A relative new-comer to the scene compared to those hes sharing screen time with, Joe Locke is enigmatic cast as the Teen (no last name given). He helps free Agatha from the Hex, pointing to the character having at least some power, but so far, is the shows biggest mystery. Wild theories have flooded the internet about his true identity, ranging from Billy Maximoff, one of Wandas sons who becomes the hero Wiccan, to being the supervillain Mephisto, to being the Darkhold itself. Locke has recently been seen in his debut show, Heartstopper on Netflix, the third season of which starts in October.

Fun Fact

First named House of Harkness in November 2021, it was renamed to Coven of Chaos in July 2022, and September 2023 saw another rebrand to Darkhold Diaries. But as we now know, it was (just) Agatha All Along, a HILARIOUS call back to the Emmy Award winning 60 second song in the parent series.

Worried fans had speculated that the various names and constant changes were indications of indecision by Marvel and its ever changing approach to their TV shows. Variety, however, reported the shifting titles were planned, and a suggestion that Agatha "is up to her old skulduggery".
