After joining the basketball team at school, Malcolm soon finds himself under the coach's skin due to his constant complaining, which eventually gets him kicked off the team. Determined to put an end to his horrible habit of talking before he thinks, Malcolm starts "holding his tongue" which solves all the problems with his coach, girlfriend, and parents, but it ends up causing more stress than before. Meanwhile, Hal takes up speed walking and is desperate to be the best while Reese gets Craig to take him and Allison to a concert and almost ruins his date.

Phoebe falls prey to a demon named Jeric, who seeks the perfect body for the spirit of his dead lover Isis to inhabit. Before the change can take place though, Jeric must mummify Phoebe. Meanwhile, an increasingly insane Cole makes a deal with Jeric in a desperate attempt to save Phoebe's life.

Margaret looks back 10 years to her first meeting with John, when she persuaded him to hire her and keep his practice open instead of closing shop and returning to Boston. Meanwhile, Bob hides at the diner from an angry tenant who wants him to fix a clogged drain; and Chris finds Jake's old keyboard.

Edna looks forward to the apple picking trip she is going to take Seymour, only he has to cancel because he needs to take care of his mother. Meanwhile, Bart looks for ways to keep from working on his research paper for WWI, including photocopying his butt and joyriding in a Blackhawk helicopter. The day before it's due, he uses Grampa as a resource. Bart receives F for his effort he works on a revised version of the paper after school. When Bart sees how sad Principal Skinner has made Ms. Krabappel when he cancels a date with her in favor of his mother, Bart goes out with her for the evening. At Lisa's suggestion, Bart decides to do more for his teacher, he nominates for the "Teacher of the Year" award. Knowing who she has to put with, the award committee selects Ms. Krabappel as their nominee. The award finals are held in Orlando, Florida at "Efcot Center." As the nominator, Bart (and his family) gets to go to award ceremony as well. Who isn't going, Seymour Skinner of course, that is until he changes mind. Of course, he has to bring mother along. At the award ceremony, Seymour is worried that he will lose Edna forever. He gets Bart to sabotage her chances at winning, but when it comes down to it he can't let Bart go through with it. Edna doesn't win the award, but she does get a marriage proposal from Seymour, with an engagement ring from Little Richard.

Peggy, who yearns to meet more people who love books, takes over a local independent bookstore. The store starts losing money, so Peggy allows Dale to sell guns there. The gun sales pass the book interests, and Peggy begins to sadden and turn her back on the book idea. Especially when the book club elitist snub Peggy at their dinner party.

Marshall's life is put on the line, after his mission with Sydney. Meanwhile, Jack becomes the main suspect of Emily's dissapearance. Also, Vaughn finds out about Jack's murder of Haladki, and CIA agent, and Syndey reveals to Francie that she has a crush on a co-worker.

Goren and Eames run a con of their own on a phony motivational speaker who they suspect exploited a fragile disciple by convincing him to commit murder for profit.

Spike and Snake's wedding is coming, and Spike finds out she is pregnant. Spike doesn't tell Snake, because he doesn't want to have anymore children- yet. Meanwhile, Joey plans Snake a bachelor party, while Craig, J.T., and Toby plan to get a stripper.

After getting mad when Joey hires a stripper, an angry Snake finds out from Emma that Spike is pregnant, which doesn't go over too well. Will the wedding ever happen?

Meanwhile, Timmy Kirk, now sentenced to Death Row, pleads to Father Mukada to help exorcize him; Ryan O'Reily seeks to prove his brother Cyril had no premeditated plans of murder; and Winthrop makes Schillinger an offer he can't refuse.
