Weary from the enjoining spell they cast, Buffy, Xander, Willow, and Giles fall asleep in the Summers living room. Each are then plagued with strange dreams that peaks into their psyche, as well as their windows into their past and even future.

However, each find themselves being chased down by the primeval embodiment of the first Slayer.

Bud's underachieving brother is accused of making a mistake during a training exercise that nearly killed 15 Marines. But establishing his innocence proves to be a difficult task, thanks to the age-old tension between the Navy and the Marines.

Will promises not to interfere when he learns that Grace has gotten romantically involved with his boss, Ben. Meanwhile, Jack finds Rosario having an affair with Gardener, and she requests a divorce from Jack, who fears losing Karen's financial support.

Forced by his boss to betray both of his friends, Will quits - only to discover that everything isn't as it seems. Frustrated, he leaves a lost Jack and Grace behind and ends up on a tropical island without a care in the world. Until Ben shows up.
